17 | 218014 | 2023-05-14 | 05:00 PM | FC Valley 2006/07 | 1 | Ajax Premier | 3 | m | EDP CT Championship | EDP | The referee crew arrived to the scheduled venue of Bristol Soccer Complex at least 30 minutes prior to kickoff. There were no teams at the field and after contacting the assignor we learned that the game had moved to Tunxis Mead in Farmington. Upon arriving and checking in the teams the Ajax coach informed us he had no copy of the home team’s game day roster and wanted to check passes as the roster provided did not have photos. I was able to obtain a digital copy of the roster with photos from another Valley FC coach to check in the home team. In the 85th minute, Ajax player #10 Riley Caudill fouled an opponent by committing a reckless tackle roughly fifteen yards from his own penalty area. I stopped play and showed Mr. Caudill his second yellow card and a red card and sent him off. He left with no issue and play restarted with a direct free kick for Valley FC. Following the game the referee crew was approached by the Ajax coach, Leszek Wrona, and his player #2 Zarell David. Mr. David informed the referee crew that while on the field of play prior to the end of the game he was subjected to a racial comment by an opponent. Mr. David stated that an opponent said to him “Whatever, you’re a nigger.” Mr. David continued that he was aware it was out of earshot of the referee crew and that it could not be punished on the field because of that, but one of his teammates heard it as well. Ajax #6 Brian Bregu confirmed he witnessed it and I asked Mr. Bregu and Mr. David if he knew who said it, and they both answered that they did not know which number player, but that it was “Eddie.” Mr. David also stated that he didn’t want this to be a big deal, but that he wanted to make sure it didn’t happen again. | None | Ajax players (#2 and #6) and coach came up after game claiming player on opposite team made a racist remark to one of their players. I blew the whistle and assessed both players yellow cards. This occurred in front of the visiting (blue) team's bench, and I was approximately 15 yards in the field. As I was writing down the information, I heard the head coach tell me "I disagree with the cards. Should have only been one on white.". I looked up and said (in a calm, measured manner) "Sorry coach. Both girls pushed each other, so they both get a yellow.". As I resumed writing, the coach would not stop telling me how wrong I was and how he disagreed with me. I told him to stop or he would get a yellow as well. He said he didn't care, so I showed him a yellow for dissent. Once I showed it to him he said "You think that's going to stop me? I going to continue to tell you what I think and how wrong you are." He continued for a short period of time before I told him that I heard him, and it's over, and if he doesn't stop I will give him another yellow. He said "That's fine, do what you have to do.". So I showed him another yellow for dissent, then a red card, telling him he had to leave the field. I put my head down to write down all this information as the coach started collecting his things and continuing to tell his bench that "This guy was all about ego. That's all.". I then heard him say "This guy is a douchebag.". At that point I looked up and told him, in a more stern manner and tone of voice, that was enough and it was time to leave. He looked at me and said "Oh yeah? And what are you going to do about it? What are you going to do about it? All ego with you!" This was accompanied by an arm gesture that went from his waist up to his shoulder. I just said that I was going to write down everything in the reports I submit. He again repeated all I had was ego and left the field. I resumed the last minute of the game. At the conclusion of the game, he reappeared on the field to talk to his players near the bench. The referee crew did not engage with him, and we all left as a team. There were no further issues. | None | None | None | As the match was coming to a close, there were fouls given to a player from each team by the center referee. After half time, coach Jorge continued to voice his dissent but in a much lower voice, it wasn’t until an AR he believed didn’t make an offside call that he began yelling that we were horrible refs and then yelled to his team to be careful because we were looking to get his players hurt. I walked over and said coach I had enough you need to leave now and he said absolutely not until I showed him a red card, so I did and he slowly proceeded to walk across the playing field telling me in front of players I was the worst ref and after he made some calls I would never see another game. The game continued without further incident. After the game the Stamford team shook the refs hands while only two Trumbull soccer players came over to the refs to thank us. As I began to put my equipment away I saw that my AR was being refused pay because she was 5 minutes late, the manager Richard Wolf insisted she didn’t deserve pay, I then went over and told her we would get the money through league officials. Mr Wolf then said he would pay her but was not happy, I tried to explain that she was coming from another soccer game it wasn’t right. Also Mr.Wolf said that I was going to get reported for threatening a 10 year old on his team with a yellow card about 10 minutes into the game. Mr. Wolf is correct in that I did warn a yellow card offense to a player on his team. The warning was that a foul was called against a Trumbull defender, the ball was stopped and Stamford was looking to take a quick restart when a Trumbull player quickly stood over the ball preventing Stamford from starting play, Stamford then asked for the ten. I told the Trumbull player he could get a yellow card for standing over ball like that when Stamford is trying to go quickly. |

One of the coach's player was hit hard in the stomach by the ball in his penalty area and fell down. The ball went to the foot of an attaching player immediately, just outside the penalty area. Given the quickness of the play, the number of attaching players in the vicinity, and the nature of the injury, I let the play continue for another 10-15 seconds. The attacking player kicked the ball, which was blocked by the GK. I stopped that game at the moment and asked the coach to come on the field to tend to the injured player. During this entire time, the coach was yelling for me to stop the play and at some point he yelled from across the field that I am disgusting: "Ref, you are disgusting." After the coach tended to the player, who was fine and able to stay on the field and continue to play, I pulled the coach aside and explained my reasoning for not stopping the play immediately. I sent him off and asked him to leave the field, which he did. However, 5 minutes later, he was still watching the game from the fence. I told him that he needed to leave the field completely so that there is no sight or sound. He was angered and said to me again that I am disgusting. I was not able to check-in the teams or obtain their rosters before the game as the visiting team arrived late and needed a few minutes to warm up and get ready. I thought mistakenly that the game was friendly (I assumed since it was a Saturday game and no one told me otherwise), but I was told during the game that it was a re-scheduled league game. Had I known, I would have conducted a proper check-in. The only contact for the team that I was able to get after the game is Chanta Anthony (chantaanthony@gmail.com). I think he is the head coach who got carded, but if not, he should know who the head coach was. |

Hartford Head Coach publicly and personally challenged that a foul was not called against his team when the throw-in was taken. He was asked to stop yelling at me. He continued to challenge every decision, either for or against his team with verbal and physical signs of protest. At the 23’, the parents from the sidelines were following the coach’s lead, and the game was becoming a challenge to manage. A spectator was arguing the interpretation of a foul along with the Coach, and the individual next to spectator was demonstrating the “fuck you” sign by giving me the middle finger. I calmly walked over to the coach, and asked him to have the parent removed. The coach refused. I notified him that the game would be terminated if the parent was not removed. He then removed his players from the field as the game was being terminated. The Hartford Coach was seen discussing something with one of the Vale administrators at the field, and it was over-heard that he accused several people of being racist. I left the field, and reported the incident to my assignor.

Towards 5 minutes left in the game, a Ginga parent was approached by a Yankee United parent in which led to a scuffle on the bleachers. Parents had to be restrained by each other and game was halted and later blew for the final whistle for the safety of the players, coaches and referees. I need to add that in my opinion the Ginga parents were the instigators throughout the entire game. Not only were they abusing myself, the AR’s but they were calling out players on Yankee United by number. Ginga parents were all over us, the referees, all game with non-stop chatter, and yelling. They were absolutely non stop as I mentioned and it escalated later in the game. Coach on Ginga even said it was ridiculous when I gave him a warning regarding them.

The coach was yelling in protest at me for calling a PK against his team. I took the time to walk over to talk to him to hear him and explain my decision. He was angry and raised his voice saying that there was no way that was a foul. When I explained to him that his player stretched out her arm and push the opponent, he disagreed and said it was a legitimate shoulder push, which it was not as I and the AR both made the call. When I thought we were done and I started to walk away to tend to the PK, I heard him say: “go back and start the F***** game.” which was loud enough for me to hear. I turned back to him and asked him if he just cursed and he said, “just go back to your penalty.” At that point I sent him off the field. He walked back to his car without any further argument. |

A few minutes later (3+), Trumbull police arrived and order was restored. (note: TPD remained on site for the remainder of the match) The game was restarted and at the end of regulation time, I added an additional 3+ minutes to account for the stoppage time. The ball was in the Wallingford penalty area, two girls were competeing for it, both collided, due to uncoordinated play on a very wet field, 50/50 challenge not foul, the Guilford forward went for the ball again and the Wallingford defender kicked the girl from behind causing a penalty. No player was hurt. I blew the whistle pointed to penalty area indicating a penalty. The father of the Guilford team screamed ‘make the fucking call’ and then proceeded onto the field continuing to swear. He was yelling I was a horrible referee and didn’t know what I was doing. My back was turned to him, but I clearly heard the offensive language as did all the children and spectactors and coaches. I then attempted to organize the players, who had no idea what was going on, and turned around to see the mayhem. The Wallingford coaches called their players off the field because they didn’t want their players near the out of control swearing parent who was on the field. I asked the CIT tournament organizers, who’s tent was next to our field, to come over and assist. They did, the coaches also helped and the Guilford assistant coach gave me the name of the offending parent, Mr. Jeremy? Alwater, father of the player Brooke Alwater. The game was called, the CIT staff escorted the parent off the premises. He was yelling during the game, along with other parents, typical comments, ‘call if both ways’, ‘watch the pushing’, ‘push her back’. Typical commentary from parents, nothing offensive up to this point.
